The fishing rod is the primary item used on the server. This item is soul bound and cannot be removed from the players inventory or lost upon death at Oil Rig.

There is only one type fishing rod, however it is upgradeable and can have its skin changed on-demand. There are 9 different upgrade trees including Experience, Merchant, Luck, Prospect, Double-up, Scale, Progression, Discovery, and Trophy Chance. To access the fishing rod upgrade menu, you can press q to drop the rod or right click while holding the Fishing Menu book and selecting *Upgrades*.

## Upgrade Trees

### Experience

This upgrade tree adds .002x to your fishing xp (amount of Experience received per caught fish) multiplier. It can be upgraded 1000 times for a total fishing xp multiplier of 3x upon reaching level 1000.

### Merchant

This upgrade tree adds .002x to your money (fish sale price) multiplier. It can be upgraded 1000 times for a total money multiplier of 3x upon reaching level 1000.

### Luck

This upgrade tree reduces the chances of catching the most common fish rarities. 0.02% is added to the Luck unit per level. Rarities are decided from a random number between 0 and 100

Each level of Luck is multiplied by .02. The equation to find the "Luck variable" is LV = (player Luck level *.02). If you were to have the maximum Luck of 500, then 500*0.02 = 10. This LV is then factored into the fish rarity calculation to increase the chances of catching higher rarity fish, while decreasing the chance of catching lower rarity fish. The LV is then multiplied into the rarity calculation with the following proportions.

The % Chance Increase is then added to the original % chance listed in the Rarities List. With 500 Luck, you would have a LV of 10 yielding the following percentages at the highest level.

### Prospect

This upgrade tree increases the chance of a shard being caught as bonus loot by 0.05% per level. The default chance of catching a shard in any zone is 1/60. The 0.05% per level reduces from the base number of 60, so for example, one level of Prospect uses the calculation: 60-(60*0.0005). After that, it selects a random number between 1 and the reduced number (59.97), and if that number is between 1 and 2 it gives the shard. This means that if you have 500 levels of Prospect (60-(60*500*0.0005)) = 45 the random number selection would then be between 1 and 45.

### Double-up

This upgrade tree increases the chance of catching 2 of the same rarity fish on a single cast by 0.01% per level. It can be upgraded 250 times for a total Double-up chance of 2.5% upon reaching level 250.

### Scale

This upgrade tree increases the chance of catching higher tier fish categories by 1 "Scale variable" per level. Fish category is calculated from a random number generator out of 5000.

Each level of Scale as added to increase the catch chance. The equation to find the "Scale variable" is SV = (player Scale level*0.02). If you were to have the maximum Scale of 500, then SV = 500*0.02 = 10. This SV is then factored into the fish category calculation to increase the chances of catching higher tier fish, while decreasing the chance of catching lower tier fish. The SV is then multiplied into the rarity calculation with the following proportions.

### Progression

This upgrade tree decreases the amount of time spent reeling in a fish during the fish catching minigame. By default, the player reels in any fish at a speed of 0.5 reel speed units per tick and this upgrade increases that speed by 0.1 per level for a total of 1.5 reel speed units including the base speed of 0.5 upon reaching level 10. 1.5 reel speed equates to a 3x decrease to reel in time compared to the default speed during the fish catching minigame.

### Discovery

This upgrade raises your chance of obtaining a key when you fish by 0.005%, the chances corresponding to which key you obtain do not change with this upgrade. At the max level of discovery (500) your chance to obtain a key is 2.5% (1 in 40 fish).

If you successfully pull a key based on your discovery level, the key type is chosen according to the table below.

### Trophy Chance

This upgrade tree increases the chance of hooking a trophy fish by 0.05% per level. The default chance of hooking a trophy fish is 1/15000. It can be upgraded 100 times to increase the chance of hooking a trophy fish to 1/14250
