anywhere on the planet.

The first 1000+ pound black marlin was caught of coast in 1966. This event sparked major attention, and thus the sport fishing industry was popularized here and still thrives to this day. Cairns plays a significant role in recreational fishing in the local community. This also contributes significantly to the regional economy, especially the tourist economy.
