Murray River has been an important location to the local communities for ages, providing large amount of murray cods, perches, and crayfish.
Fishing in Murray River has been rooted into the local culture, with its close communities they rely on the fishermen for their needs.
The best catches were sold or traded for other supplies, this reinforced the river's crucial role for their needs and traditions. However, overfishing after the European explorations in the 1800s almost led to the extinction of the Murray cods.
