Murray River
Murray River is the fourth available location of FishOnMC. The Murray-Darling river system is the longest in Australia. It flows through New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia, shaping the land and its people for thousands of years.
Real Life History
Based on the real-life Murray River, this site has been a lifeline for Aboriginal communities for centuries, providing an abundant source of Murray cod, perch, and crayfish. Fishing is deeply rooted in local culture, with tight-knit communities relying on fishers for subsistence. Traditionally, the finest catches were sold or traded for supplies, reinforcing the river’s vital role in livelihood and tradition. However, commercial and recreational overfishing after European exploration in the 19th Century nearly led to the extinction of the Murray cod.
